When Dewey Robertson won the Canadian Heavyweight Title, it fulfilled a long time dream for the local star. Like Bravo before him, Dewey would appear throughout the Mid-Atlantic region while Canadian champion. When in the Carolinas he would mostly wrestle from the heel corner (a subtle type heel ala Bockwinkel) and there was a loose affiliation with Buddy Rogers who was managing in the area

Dewey Robertson stunned everyone recently. After winning the Canadian title by beating Ken Patera, Gene Kiniski, and Greg Valentine in a one night tournament, he came back the next Maple Leaf Gardens card to beat AWA kingpin Nick Bockwinkel with a figure four leglock. Fortunately for Bockwinkel, only Robertson's title was at stake in this particular match

NWA champion Harley Race returned to the city where he won his title over three years ago to meet Canadian champion Dewey Robertson. These two champs battled the way champions should - rough, tough, but within the rules. Race's suplexes, piledrivers, kneedrops, and headbutts took their toll. For Robertson, the figure-four leglock was the ace in the hole. Race was on the verge of submission when time ran out.
