Local Wrestlers tops with Georgetown fans
Author Unknown

A small but appreciative crowd was on hand at the Georgetown Memorial Arena last Tuesday evening to cheer on the local hero as professional wrestling made a return to town after a lengthy absence.

Some came to watch The Sheik and The Mighty Igor in a steel cage match that never came about. A loud roar of disapproval could be heard throughout the auditorium when promoter Dave McKigney announced The Sheik had car trouble in Chatham.

Many of the spectators were on hand to watch former Georgetown District High School student Randy Scott (Scott Webber) and his Brampton tag-team partner John Bonello as they put the World Tag-Team Championship Belts they recently won on the line.

Scott, a former RR5, Georgetown resident, began his wrestling career two years ago when his brother-in-law got him involved in Puerto Rico. Scott's parents are still living in Georgetown and despite spending much of his time in the Detroit area he says he still considers Georgetown home. "It's a nice little town." says Randy, "It's nice to see it progressing."

Randy spent much of the his time between the two matches he wrestled talking to old friends in the halls of the arena, catching up on the local happenings and friends.

On the wrestling mat to say he was the favorite was an understatement. Scott along with his partner John, had the support of all arena fans in their title match victory over the Davidson Brothers, John and Mike.

Scott opened the Tuesday night card with a victory over Mike Davidson befroe returning later for the tag-team bout.

Scott said he was single and looking although his wrestling career keeps him moving. After Georgetown on Tuesday he headed to Windsor, Sarnia, and Detroit before the week was out.

Another popular feature of the David McKigney Sports Production matches were the fabulous midgets. Farmer Pete and his opponent Ivan The Terrible thrilled onlookers with their antics and wrestling. Crowd pleaser Pete was victorious.

Killer Karl Von Krupp had the fans fuming for his antics throughout the evening in a bout with Danny Johnson, which he won, and replacing The Sheik in the Steel Cage in a bloody bout he lost.

In the cage match the object was to get out of the ring before your opponent. The Mighty Igor, his face bloodied from the steel of the cage, emerged first for the win but the bout continued on the floor and in the dressing room hallway before the fans and the wrestlers filtered out.
