The MLWP is celebrating 10 Years !
We have seen many rare items come to light over the past ten years
and just as many questions about the area. Why or Where, or How?
Here is a list of 7 random things we would like to see - or know about.
#1 - Pics of the MLG Marquee featuring Wrestling
I wish I had taken more photos of the 'other' stuff, the area around MLG,
the Wrestling Office, and especially the Marquee. The one above is the only one I have
seen from he pre WWF era. Did it once say "Bruno vs Buddy Tonight", or "Whipper Returns"
The listings were on the side boards of the Marquee, did anyone ever take photos ? Send them if you got em !
#2 - What happened to the ramp ?
I have had several fans ask me "where is the ramp?". Is it being used
as a patio walk-up, maybe a pool deck? My guess is they chopped it up for firewood
or just tossed it in a dumpster when they cleaned out the Gardens.
If anyone knows , lets hear about it !
#3 - Pics of Mr Fuji and Angelo Mosca Jr. with the Canadian Title
In ten years we still have not seen a pic of either Fuji or Mosca Jr. wearing the Canadian belt.
Granted Fuji was only champ for a blink or 2 but someone must have taken a pic of both champs, did you ? send em !
#4 - What happened to the other title belts
The Canadian Heavyweight is around, the TV Title was used for Ron Hutchison's group a few years back
Roger Baker sent me some great recent shots of the Wildman's N-A Belt but what happened to the International Tag Belts
and how about the British Empire Title worn by Whipper Watson in the 60's.
Knowing that the International Belt (as worn by Bravo) from Montreal was apparently sold at a yard sale, nothing
would surprise us, do you know where they are? do you have them? let us know !
#5 - What happened to all the footage?
Often they would show footage on the late news or sometimes the following day
with some clips of the nights bouts. That camera above the ramp was usually manned for some, if not most of the show.
Lots of single bouts are available, some nights such as the 82 Cadillac Tourney or the Japanese themed card in 1980
have a few bouts existing on tape. There is the 8mm 'Mayfield' stuff and some single bouts from the 70's but really just a drop in the bucket.
Where is everything else Did it survive, does someone have reels in their basement ? Tell me if you know !
#6 - If Frank Tunney had not passed away in 1983 would Toronto still have gone with the WWF?
I have been asked this a couple of times by visitors to the site. I have no idea !
Looking at how it all happened if I had to guess I would say Frank would have likely made the same decisions as Jack did.
The other option would have been to join the other promoters as they ended up doing and combining forces.
We all know how that ended up but maybe with an elder statesman at the helm such as Frank, it may have gone better.
Doubtful though and the WWF machine was just too powerful, and Frank was very close with Vince Sr in the old days so....
#7 - What is the 'Holy Grail' of Toronto Wrestling - memorabilia wise?
In a poll a while back, I asked "You can own 1 piece of Toronto Wrestling History"
The Sheik's US Title Belt won that one ahead of the NWA ring apron, the ramp, The B-E Title belt
and the ring bell, among some other items. The item I voted for was the 'sign-in sheets/book'. I don't know
how long those was used but it was a regular sight during the M-A era to watch the wrestlers enter
off Wood St and sign at the table on their way in. Would certainly be cool to go through those especially
if it was used over the previous era.
An obvious other choice for me would be full footage of any of the historic bouts from the
40's and 50's, the NWA title changes, and ultimately the Thesz Rogers bouts from 1963.
