"Ontario & The AWA"

Verne Gagne's Minneapolis based American Wrestling Association would make it's first foray into the area in late 1977 -at the close of the Sheik era in Toronto. Frank Tunney would work with Gagne to bring the top tier stars of the AWA into MLG and surrounding cities for much of the 77-82 era.

The Mid-Atlantic affiliation in 1979 would see the end of the AWA ' themed ' cards but the stars would continue to appear in the area up until 1982. In addition to AWA champ Nick Bockwinkel's many appearances, we would also see long time AWA stars Ray Stevens, Greg Gagne & Jim Brunzell and Billy Robinson. In addition to the Tunney promoted cards, they (the AWA) would also stage some shows under their own banner in Ottawa.
