Andre would debut in Canada as Jean Ferre in 1971. His early appearances would be in tags or working with his mentor Edouard Carpentier
His Toronto debut would come later that year with a victory over veteran Lee Henning. In late 1973 Andre would challenge U.S Champion The Sheik but failed to wrest the title from the undefeated champ and actually suffered one of the few losses of his career at the hands of the "Noble One".
Andre was indeed a man of the world, but would return frequently to the Ontario and Quebec regions carrying on long feuds with Killer Kowalski and Don Leo Jonathon in the 70s, and Hulk Hogan and John Studd in the 80s.
Andre would also be seen regularly on Dave McKigney's shows throughout Ontario usually in a handicap match against the local heels
In Toronto his feuds with Studd, Killer Kahn, and Ken Patera would help to fill up MLG whenever he came to town. Andre would be part of several big Tunney cards through the years including the 40th Anniversary(1976), Exhibition Stadium(1977), and the 50th Anniversary(1981). The Giant would also appear on many of the WWF cards post 1984 including a memorable feud with Kamala.
