When Canadian Heavyweight Champ Dino Bravo would abruptly leave the area in 1979 heading to Winnipeg
(where he would continue to be billed as the 'Canadian Champion' under the AWA banner) promoter Frank Tunney would
assemble a Tournament for the vacant belt.

Featuring a mix of stars the tournament was a big success and ended with local favorite
Robertson clamping the figure four on former champ Valentine to gain the belt.
